SUSANE II: Optimizing environmentally friendly biogas production from livestock manure for the reduction of green house gas emissions: A research capacity building project - Vietnam
Coordinators: Vicedirector Dr. Vu Chi Cuong, Landbrugsministeriet, National Institute of Animal Science (NIAS); E-mail vn1899@gmail.com; Professor Sven G. Sommer, University of Southern Denmark, Det Tekniske Fakultet; E-mail SGS@kbm.sdu.dk) Project manager: Dr. Vu Thi Khanh Van ; E-mail VuKhanhVan2002@yahoo.com Short project description SUSANE will contribute to transform animal manure into an asset for the farmer. The project focus on energy, mineral fertilizer value and hygiene related to manure management in Vietnam. SUSANE has the dual purpose of increasing the benefits of biogas production and manure recycling for both farmers and for society. The intention is to ensure that biogas production contributes significantly to both energy production, reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and safe and efficient recycling of the biomass for plant production. The specific objectives of the project are to: 1) Develop sustainable, hygienic and locally adapted biogas technology using manure for energy production. 2) Reduce green house gas emissions by introducing biogas technology, with focus on optimization of carbon sequestration and fertilizer efficiency of fermented manure from biogas plants (digestate). 3) Develop new integrated decision support tools based on criteria, which has to be fulfilled to ensure that introduction of biogas technologies at farm level is successful both in terms of optimal manure management and in terms of reduced environmental impacts. Contribute to teaching in construction of biogas plants and use of treated manure. For more information about project participants see www.susane.info.
